What BCSP says about the items
BCSP's own description is short: "100 multiple-choice items" with "only one (1) correct answer." There are no essay, fill-in or drag-and-drop items in that description, and nothing on this sheet goes further than it (checked Oct 12, 2026).
Each item is tied to a book you can open. BCSP's STSC Blueprint References (V.2021.05.28) says "every question is supported by a published reference" and lists 21 titles used in writing the exam, among them the National Safety Council's Supervisors' Safety Manual, 11th edition.
One thing BCSP does not say is whether any of the 100 items are unscored trial questions. Since that is unpublished, plan as if every item counts.
How the 100 items are spread
What 100 items means on the day
All 100 share one clock; the pacing math is on how long the STSC exam is. Wrong answers carry no penalty, and the passing score sheet covers what that means for your approach.
Multiple choice, scoring and trial items
Are all STSC questions multiple choice?
Yes. BCSP describes the STSC as 100 multiple-choice items with one correct answer each (Complete Guide, 12th ed., as of October 2026).
Do some STSC questions not count toward the score?
BCSP has published nothing about unscored or pretest items on the STSC as of October 2026. Treat all 100 as scored.
Where can I try single-answer questions across all five domains?
The free STSC practice set runs multiple-choice cards from every domain, with a note under each option explaining why it is right or wrong.
